Clinical Trials & Evidence Generation

Clinical trials are medical research studies involving people. All new treatments and procedures have to be thoroughly tested. We have excellent regional infrastructure to support the facilitation of clinical research and real world evaluation.

This ensures the establishment of an evidence base for the effectiveness of products and services in clinical practice. Here we can also assist with the necessary regulatory approvals required to run trials and evaluations.

Clinical trials are medical research studies involving people. All new treatments and procedures must be thoroughly tested. Trials aim to find out if a new treatment or procedure is safe, works better than the current standard of care, whilst assessing side effects and impact on quality of life. Trials can have a positive, negative, or neutral result, which are often assessed by national governing bodies, for example NICE, to determine if an intervention is to be recommended for use. We have a vast clinical trial and evaluation infrastructure across the region including the NIHR Clinical Research Network, NIHR MedTech and In Vitro Diagnostics Co-operative, MedConNect North, Tees Valley Alliance and local NHS organisations who can facilitate clinical research and evaluation. We work together to establish an evidence base for the effectiveness of products and services in clinical practice.

Wider support for obtaining regulatory approvals can be undertaken given strong links with MHRA and HRA.
