Attracting International Investment

We work closely with international companies looking to establish a presence in the UK. By setting up offices in the UK, particularly in the North East and North Cumbria, these companies can access a wealth of resources, including skilled talent, funding, and strategic partnerships. Our efforts are focused on making the North East and North Cumbria the go-to destination for these innovators, providing them with everything they need to succeed.

Through our collaboration with the Department for International Trade (DIT), we help these companies navigate the complexities of the UK market, with a special emphasis on understanding the National Health Service (NHS) as a key market. This includes offering tailored support through our innovation service, which is designed to help overseas companies grasp the intricacies of the NHS and position themselves effectively.

Trade Missions and International Collaborations

Our trade missions are a cornerstone of our support strategy. We organise and lead missions that bring UK innovators to key international markets, fostering connections that can lead to investment, partnerships, and expansion. A trade mission in Romania saw Mistura co-founder, Dr Dawn Price explore the collaboration opportunities for their innovation as part of a regional delegation to the country.

Dr Dawn Price was previously part of a team of pharmacists and doctors from the UK who helped develop mental health systems overseas in Australia and New Zealand. However, she found that this expedition lacked the opportunities a trade mission can allow for.

Speaking to HI NENC Chair, Dean Fathers on the Innovation in Healthcare podcast she said that;

“becoming part of a trade mission where you can be introduced to the right people and understand the infrastructure from a perspective of a business was the ideal opportunity that came along at the right time and of course medicines is the same all over the world, slightly different names, but they are the same medicines.”

On the trade mission, they met hospital leaders, researchers at Romania’s universities and business leaders in medtech and healthcare innovation. Meeting these three groups allowed Mistura a better understanding of how they might be able to meet the country’s needs whilst also providing the company with invaluable visibility.

We also facilitate exchange programs, such as our collaboration with Canada, where participating companies have had the opportunity to set up offices in the UK.
