Innovation Pathway Support

Health Innovation North East and North Cumbria enables its innovators to take strides forwards in the health and care innovation landscape through the provision of support services across a range of specialties, from health and care data research to rapid discovery design sprints.

Clinical Digital Resource Collaborative

Clinical Digital Resource Collaborative (CDRC) is a collaboration of expert clinicians based in the North East of England that develop clinical, NHS-owned resources in clinical systems. Over the last five years, CDRC has created resources in EMIS and SytmOne, in order to release time within clinical teams and ensure that gold standard patient care is delivered. The resources help to identify people with undiagnosed long term conditions, supporting clinicians to find the right people, at the right time.

Having built a strong track record of tried and tested resources in the North East, CDRC is working with Health Innovation North East and North Cumbria to develop a commercialisation strategy. Currently in development, this will offer data insights and case finding opportunities on a wider footprint, to ultimately improve patient care and safety on a larger scale while maintaining the confidentiality of patient data and records.

The Innovation Design Service

The Innovation Design Service (IDS) delivered by Health Innovation NENC supports clinical teams, businesses and operational teams to rapidly discover innovative solutions to complex issues for the benefit of patients, clinicians and the wider ecosystem.

IDS adopts design thinking methodology, bringing together stakeholders for a facilitated session, or series of sessions, to fully understand and appreciate the problem at hand, before working together to design a range of solutions and using testing and feedback to narrow these down.

Secure Data Environment for the North East and North Cumbria

The North East and North Cumbria (NENC) is one of 11 regions to receive funds from NHS England to create a Secure Data Environment (SDE).

Accessing health and care data for research and analysis can be time-consuming and burdensome.

Secure Data Environments will become the default way to access health and care data for research and analysis purposes.

This is safer as instead of multiple copies of data being made available to researchers and analysts, they are given access to a secure place where they can access the data for their specific purpose. Access to the data is tightly controlled and record level data cannot be removed.

Secure Data Environments provide better control and security by bringing researchers and analysts to the data, rather than distributing copies of that data.
